  1. 20 Years Ago Today

20 years ago to this very day, I was stood on the Holte End at Villa Park watching West Ham lose 0-4 to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup Semi-Final. Two decades on, Tony Gale's unjust sending off still hurts. It changed the game for sure.…

  2. Last month I declared Some Kind Of Bliss as my joint-favourite Kylie song. The other tune can now be revealed. You were waiting for it. Confide In Me was Kylie's first single to be released without even a hint of Pete Waterman involvement.…

  7. Still my joint favourite Kylie song , written with the Manic Street Preachers, and taken from my favourite Kylie album Sadly this also happens to be from her most commercially unsucessful period - this only reached 22 in the UK charts.…

  8. I'd forgotten how much I love this song. Sometimes I wish every year could be just like 1988. Lip-syncing didn't need any effort. Just needed to be obvious to be cool. Guitars? Never plugged in.

  9. Every time I revisit this song, I'm struck by just how good it is. One of my favourite pop songs of of this millennium, if not my absolute favourite, possibly trumping my fave track by Siobhan's former band. The video's awful, mind.

  10. Disco 2011

Yay. Pulp are reforming for some shows next summer. No other band quite captured what it was like to live in Britain in the mid-90's.…

  11. If You Tolerate This

Two decades on do the Generation Terrorists still matter? Maybe not. But this is a very different band to the 4 real era of the early 1990's, and in truth they have been different ever since the post-Richey comeback in 1995.…

  12. Last weekend I had a discussion over who is the best one album band. For such a debate it is vital to set parameters. It has to be a band, which rules out Jeff Buckley.…

  13. Victory is ours. The BBC Trust has saved BBC 6 Music from closure. That boiling hot day I spent in central London in May was not a futile middle class jolly after all.…

  14. Hang out the bunting, tickle your fancy and attempt a chord change on a vuvuzela. Five years after the break-up of Gene - one of my favourite bands, their frontman Martin Rossiter is back. Twice.…

  15. I received this text out of Glastonbury this weekend: "Check out Sophie Hunger, she's exactly the type that you get hung up on & unhealthily obsessed by." Fair. sophiehunger.com

  16. A week ago I rallied for fair votes. Yesterday I declared my support for the BBC radio station 6music at Broadcasting House in London at the event organised by love6music.com, and reported in today’s Independent.…
