Channy Leaneagh (Poliça) Talks Jessie Ware’s Tough Love | The Talkhouse Music

Channy Leaneagh, for The Talkhouse Music:

The first time I saw Jessie Ware perform, it was on Poliça’s first trip to Australia. I walked up to the stage at the top of the set and was captivated by her energy — her vibe, so to speak. The timbre of her voice and the way she touched each note, singing with ease and deep emotion, felt so good to my homesick soul. She seemed to radiate onto the crowd her love of performing and making music; it had an infectious quality of joy and gratitude. I watched her set one more time in Perth (we were on the same string of festival dates for Laneway 2012) and met her afterwards. Even in our brief encounter, I became a big fan of her as a performer, vocalist and also as a person.

I enjoyed Jessie Ware's first album but found some of it by the numbers soul. Second album 'Tough Love' is very good indeed (apart from the song poisoned by the pen of Sheeran). Channy wouldn't be wrong of course.

That Gum You Like Is Going To Come Back In Style

No work of art has given me more pleasure than the two seasons of Twin Peaks from the early 90s.

I watched every episode 'live', then several times over on video during the following week.

I bought all the books, the VHS, the DVD of the first season, the (Spanish only) DVD of the second season, the eventual DVD box set with all the features, and most recently, the bumper Blu-ray remasters (the first Blu-ray / DVD I've purchased in 6 years).

I don't know where to start in explaining the show's appeal, so I won't. It's just the best. At everything. It touches every human emotion. It's David Lynch's masterpiece.

A picture of the Black Lodge has been my last.fm avatar since day one, there are two Twin Peaks images in my Twitter profile. My obsession with Sherilyn Fenn is well into a third decade. A trip to the Snoqualmie Falls area is number one on my bucket list.

The new Twin Peaks was announced on the same day that the Juliana Hatfield Three confirmed they'd reformed.

A week on, and I'm still not coping very well with this news.

Haley Bonar - From a Cage (2014)

Another stunning video.

As is now obligatory with releases on the peerless Memphis Industries label, there's some Justin Vernon vocals on this.

Haley's latest album has 9 songs, lasts just over half an hour, and is flawless.

Deluxe editions can do one. Albums with 10 or less tracks always win.
