This was Billy Joel at his absolute peak. The Stranger album was only 5 years old. Three more had followed, each with their moments.
The classic lineup was here including Liberty Devitto, the late great Doug Stegmeyer, Russell Javors and the magnificent Mark Rivera. The ten year old me didn't care that in years to come saying that might not be fashionable.
He owned Long Island that night and it would never be so good again. The Brinkleyisation era was only a year away.
